Saint-Gobain Plant Manager in Seattle, Washington
Consistent with CertainTeed Gypsum (CTG) Vision, Mission, Values and Objectives (VMVO), the Plant Manager provides effective leadership to control and manage all plant operations, while meeting corporate manufacturing performance objectives in a manner that ensures exceptional customer service. The Plant Manager is responsible for maximizing production and operating efficiencies within the agreed cost and quality standards while pursuing positive continuous improvement. This position provides an organized and safe work environment for all employees while complying with all federal, states, and local laws including those covering environmental legislation. The Plant Manager will also have overall responsibility for ensuring all internal controls are met in accordance with corporate standards.
Reports directly to the CTG Manufacturing Manager – Western Region.
Leads and champions activities in the manufacturing facility to achieve World Class Performance that encourages, empowers and delivers a continuous improvement environment.
Performs all duties and responsibilities required to effectively manage a manufacturing facility with products that may be produced, brokered, and/or warehoused onsite.
Provides an accident free worksite while maintaining status as the preferred supplier of quality products and service with a goal of world class yield, availability, and reliability.
Continuously evaluates workplace for safety concerns and ensures behavioral safety initiatives are performed to goal levels.
Has overall responsibility for plant operations including safety, environment, quality, production, continuous improvement, service, cost reduction, internal controls, finance, engineering, maintenance, customer service, purchasing, people development, human resources and plant administration.
Models and creates a local VMVO climate that allows individual and team development towards a problem solving culture.
Directs and coaches the plant staff to achieve optimal performance, providing leadership and information needed to empower employees in the achievement of company objectives.
Ensures the safe and efficient use of all assets - employees, materials, and equipment in the facility.
Maintains an environment where all employees feel secure and free from harassment and discrimination.
Meets with customers, vendors, and suppliers, as necessary, maintaining a level of communication which ensures that quality and service needs are met.
Oversees adherence to all internal control policies and standards. Ensures plant is meeting all corporate requirements in inventory control, purchasing, payroll, asset management, together with any other applicable areas related to company assets.
Directs the interest of the facility with the awareness of other internal CTG needs.
Regularly communicates progress of plant goals to all department employees.
Exercises independent judgment and discretion in the operation of the plant within established policies and procedures.
Bachelor’s Degree in engineering, science, or similar discipline, or five (5) years of equivalent training and experience that provides a comprehensive working knowledge of the laws, regulations, practices and procedures impacting a manufacturing facility. Master’s degree, MBA preferred.
Five to ten (5-10) years of experience at a senior supervisory level within the areas of supervision, manufacturing, engineering, production, and human resources to demonstrate mastering of the required core competencies including: providing direction, influencing others, fostering teamwork, coaching and developing employees and being a champion of change.
Demonstrable track record in the application of Lean / World Class principles and practices.
Ability to provide leadership and innovation at all levels of the organization utilizing differing styles of management; from directive, to coaching and supporting, through delegation, as the situation need arises.
Change management and conflict management skills.
Strong influencer and communicator.
Results driven, flexible and open-minded with good written and oral communication.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
Three (3) years of Plant Manager experience preferred.
